Kenyan schools registered mixed results on Day Three of the on going East Africa School Games

The Kenyan hockey teams, Nyamira Girls and St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale delivered outstanding performances on Day Three of the 2024 Federation of East Africa School Sports Associations (FEASSA) Games.

Both teams secured emphatic victories, each netting five goals against their Ugandan opponents, Namagunga Girls and Bweranyangi Girls, respectively at the Mbale School of Hygiene in Mbale, Uganda.

Audrey Greener and Mary Adhiambo were the standout performers, each scoring a brace, while Daisy Kerubo scored one goal to ensure St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale, Kenya’s second runners-up beat Bweranyangi Girls 5-0.

In similar fashion, Nyamira Girls, the defending FEASSA champions, overpowered Namagunga Girls with a 5-0 win. Amanda Wamalwa led the charge with two goals, while Laureen Auma, Stephanie Seba, and Jacinta Opondo each contributed a goal, asserting their dominance in the tournament.

Kenyan champions Tigoi Girls, however, were held to a goalless draw in their match against Uganda’s Kakungulu Memorial, marking a competitive day for Kenyan hockey.

In the boys’ category, Musingu High School’s Hillary Angairwa was the hero of the day, scoring a hat-trick that led his team to a 3-0 victory over Mbarara High School. Meanwhile, St. Anthony’s Kitale triumphed in an all-Kenyan clash, edging out St. Charles Lwanga 2-1 in a thrilling encounter.

In boys’ football, St. Joseph’s Boys Kitale faced Benjamin Mkapa High School of Tanzania in a match that ended in a goalless draw.

On the girls’ side, St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim, while Nyakach Girls secured a 3-1 win over Tanzanites in their Pool A match. Butere Girls were held to a 1-1 draw by Rwanda’s S.G. Rumera.

In rugby sevens, Kenyan teams registered mixed results. Kisii Secondary School faced a tough challenge, losing 7-12 to Vihiga Boys Secondary School, while St. Mary’s Yala dominated Dr. Obote College Boroboro from Uganda with a 36-10 victory.

Bwake Secondary School also impressed, defeating Rwanda’s Gitisi Ruhambo 31-0 and Uganda’s Kira College Butiki 34-0. Vihiga Boys drew 7-7 with Bwake Secondary School in an intense Kenyan derby.

The rugby 15s saw commanding performances from Kenyan schools, with Butula School crushing Kitondo School 42-3 and All Saints Embu outclassing Lenana School 45-11.

In basketball 3x3 boys, Sawagongo High School emerged victorious in two of their matches, defeating Uganda’s Buddo SS 14-8 and Seroma CHS 10-6, but lost narrowly to Rwanda’s ITS Gasogi 17-19.

St. Joseph’s Kitale won 16-15 against Buddo SS but fell 11-12 to Tanzania’s Dodoma SS. Friends School Kamusinga managed a win against Onjiko High 17-10 but was also defeated by ITS Gasogi.

In the girls’ Basketball 3x3, St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale narrowly edged Nasokol Girls 12-10. However, Nasokol Girls suffered a 12-19 defeat to Nabisunsa from Uganda. Butere Girls had a mixed day, defeating Raila Educational Center 12-10 but losing 13-14 to Uganda’s Seroma CHS.

In Basketball 5x5, the boys’ teams had a challenging day, with Juhudi Secondary School losing 77-70 to Tanzania’s Dr. Aggrey and Agoro Sare falling 96-75 to ITS Gasogi from Rwanda. In the girls’ 5x5, Kaya Tiwi emerged victorious over Butere Girls with a score of 57-49.

In boys’ handball, Kenya’s Hospital Hill narrowly defeated Tanzania’s Magnus 23-22, while Siniak secured a 17-15 win against Bunda. In the girls’ category, Kwanthanze lost 9-15 to Murinduko in an all-Kenyan matchup.
